Hubby and I were planning to fly into Denver April 2nd then head north to Mt Rushmore, west to Yellowstone, south to Salt Lake city and onto Las Vegas. Is this practical at this time of the year or are we going to run into problems with snow? Neither of us ski, but we enjoy walking.
South Dakota in April
You could easily run into snow, the Black Hills had a road-closing snow storm this year the beginning of May, Montana had 14 inches of snow.
Or, it may be sunny %26amp; mild.
You can check the weather history for your locations here:

South Dakota in April
You can get through the Black Hills in early April. You could have a storm and be stuck for a day or two but you can eventually make it--people drive the routes you%26#39;d drive all winter long. The only disappointing thing is that the Needles Highway will be closed and Iron Mountain Road could be closed.
Your bigger problem will be Yellowstone. Much of the park is closed in early April. Check out the Yellowstone website and the Wyoming Trip Advisor forums. If Yellowstone is one of your reasons for the trip, you%26#39;ll probably want to reschedule.
