Thanks for your advice about my trip from Denver to Mount Rushmore area-it really helps!
Can you advise me a liitle more-the online route plotters offer different routes, with some advising through Cheyenne and the others going North East of Denver. Which is best? We%26#39;re travelling 20th October.
Driving from Denver-part 2! (best route)
We most often go north on Interstate 25 from Denver through Cheyenne to Orin Junction. East on Hwy 18 to Lusk follow 18 north then east to Edgemont SD. We continue on to Hot Springs, but you can go north on Hwy 89 to Pringle, then Custer.

The Wyoming route vs. the Nebraska route is always a toss-up. If you take the Wyoming route, sometimes I-25 traffic north of Denver is heavy in the afternoon.
I usually drive the Wyoming route. I-25 to Guernsey and then take WY270 north through Hartville up to Manville. Then 18 to Edgemont and 385 north to 244 east which will take you to Mount Rushmore.
Taking WY270 will save you about 15 miles over going to Orin Junction and is a pretty drive around Hartville. If the weather is questionable, though, I would take the Orin Junction route.
