My wife and I will be spending time in the greater Black Hills area this September. Heading East from Seattle we%26#39;ll stop in Coeur D%26#39;Alene, then Bozeman, hoping to visit the Little Bighorn Battlefield and thinking we%26#39;d aim for Belle Fourche or Lead for our first outpost in the Black Hills. Longer drive then we like, but don%26#39;t see many options. From there, we%26#39;re focused on the Devil%26#39;s Tower loop, the touristy cities, Rushmore, Custer S.P and environs, and the Badlands. We can spend around a week or so. Any help regarding itineraries appreciated, but my main question right now is this--leaving in the morning from Belle Fourche or Lead, heading to Wall and then touring the Badlands, should we plan to spend the night in the Interior area after emerging from the park? Or is it reasonable to get through the Badlands and end up in the Custer State Park area or Rushmore area? Thanks!
How much time?
Leaving early from Lead it is about 130 miles to Badlands N.P.
Another 120 to Hill City. Total 250 miles.
Leaving Badlands you can backtrack on I 90 or take rt44 towards Hill City.
If I were in your shoes i would drive to Hill City
or Custer the same day.I would spend:
2 hrs in Wall
3 hrs in Badlands this would get you into the Hill City vicinity late in the afternoon.
It is reasonable to get there being you don%26#39;t get tied up too long in Wall or the Badlands.
Black Hills awesome...
How much time?
Thanks for all the helpful advice. We are pumped for our trip!
