From Denver in October

We have a holiday %26#39;slot%26#39; from 20th October for 8 days and wanted to see Mount Rushmore and South Dakota. What road conditions should we expect driving from Denver? Thanks all!

From Denver in October

It should be fairly ok. We were there about the same time last year, and it was rainy and snowing up on spearfish canyon (but not a lot of snow).

You could get anything. That is about when you *Might* run into some snow, but most likely will be crisp fall weather.

The drive from denver should be fine. Not likely to snow, but you never know! If there is snow, would most likely run into it in the actual black hills area.

From Denver in October

I drove my parents through Needles %26amp; Iron mountain last Oct 29. It was a beautiful, sunny day.

But, as the last poster says, it could be snowing. The last few years we have not been getting snow in the fall.

There was snow on Sunday October 21, last year in Spearfish Canyon. I remember the date cause was driving back to Denver from my dad%26#39;s funeral in ND. Woke in spearfish with the black hills dusted in white :)

But it wasn%26#39;t terrible or anything, it actually was very pretty with the snow sticking to the evergreens and not really to the road (just slightly slushy in a few spots towards the top and kinda foggy).

But most likely will be those sunny crisp fall days that are more usual :)

I%26#39;d be most concerned with the prairie driving between Denver and the Black Hills. The wind in that part of Wyoming always blows...hard. Combine the wind with some snow and it makes for hard driving. So check the weather before your drives from and to Denver. safetravelusa.com will have road conditions and webcams for much of the drive between here and Denver.

Otherwise, the weather in October in the Black Hills is typcially OK but not great--you might see some snow as the other posters mentioned. In October it%26#39;s rare that there will be huge snow storms (like we%26#39;ve had this spring).
