We are arriving in Hill City this Saturday. I keep reading about this Alpine Restaurant and am thinking we should check it out. Do they accept reservations? From what I%26#39;m reading I%26#39;m thinking they don%26#39;t, so on a saturday night how long would a party of seven expect to wait. I%26#39;m just thinking is it practical for my three children to be able to stand through a long wait for dinner. Is there anything near the restaurant that would be a distraction while we wait?
We are leaving Hill City Monday morning so if we are going to eat there it would have to be Saturday.

The food is almost always worth a wait. You may wait for 1/2 hour or more. You can go over to the train yard (1880%26#39;s Train) and browse around while you wait. Usually folks of all ages enjoy it.

Alpine Inn basics:
Open Monday-Saturday.
Lunch = full German menu supplemented with American fare.
Dinner = Fillet Mignon only. Small or Large. You get an iceberg lettuce wedge with ranch dressing (order it on the side unless you want it drenched) and a baked potato.
Great food--but it%26#39;s not a ';gourmet'; type restaurant. Try the Corn Exchange in Rapid City or the Sage Creek Grille in Custer if you%26#39;re looking for a fancy meal.
Great deserts for both lunch and dinner.
No reservations accepted.
No credit cards.
Reasonable prices.
Located on the ground floor of a beautiful old hotel. The dining area goes from room to room. There is a bar and a large porch where you can wait.
A party of seven on a Saturday night in mid-July might have to wait over an hour if you show up at 7 p.m. Go early--I believe they start serving dinner at 5 but you might call them to check. Or go late.
Thank you for all the advice, esp. no credit cards. I tend to use them for alot of things so I%26#39;ll have to be sure to have cash. We%26#39;ll try to go early, going late will never work.
