week's itinerary in the Black Hills

Sorry I wasn%26#39;t clear about my travel arrangements to the Black Hills area in my earlier post. I meant that I was flying to the area from Los Angeles, renting a car and flying out of the area back to Los Angeles. The whole idea of flying is not to use my time is just driving to and from the area. Once there, a car is necessary to move around. I have no idea about the airports in that area and need help with routing my trip using air in and out of South Dakota. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Accomodator did a great job in giving you highlights of the area on your other post. As far as airports, Rapid City is ideal, but it can be expensive. The last I looked Frontier had the cheapest rates, but I am from the east coast, so you might find some differences. United %26amp; Northwest are some of the biggest carriers in Rapid City. The airport is small and very pleasant to be in.

You might want to also check Sioux Falls. I have a friend who lives in Florida who saved a lot of money flying in there. It would necessitate drivng across the state, but you might save a bit, and you could see the Badlands enroute to the Black Hills.

Be sure to order a SD guidebook. On a recent post, the link to order one was posted. You can always do some research to find it, or you can google South Dakota tourism. With this book, you can review all the attractions Accomodator mentioned, plus add any that may interest you. When in Deadwood, be sure to see the Adams House in addition to the museum. Both are wonderful. We had a wonderful docent at the Adams House who still writes letters to my soon to be 10 year old daughter, and our visit was 2 years ago!!

Enjoy your trip, and don%26#39;t hesitate any additional questions.

Thank you so much for your detailed info. I hope to call upon you again for further details when I finalize my trip which I plan on arranging in the next few weeks. Much appreciated.

Hi Gwens,

Glad to help. I just did a quick check on airfares from LAX to Rapid City %26amp; Sioux Falls on Orbitz. RT into both in July (couldn%26#39;t recall when you were going) is running $400 on Frontier into Rapid, and $400 on United into Sioux Falls. Since they are the same price, I would definitely choose Rapid City. I was hoping they wouldn%26#39;t be so pricey, but I guess everything is high right now due to the gas prices.

The Black Hills is a beautiful area with a huge diversity of attractions in relatively close proximity to each other. Once you take a look at the travel guide, I think you will probably have specific questions on some of the attractions Accomodator mentioned. By all means, post again. There are many people on here regularly who can help.

Hey sorry I misunderstood! Flying into Rapid City would be your closest. If prices are way to high, you may also want to look at flying into Denver, Southwest Airlines has some cheap fares, sometimes $100 rt! Denver is about 6 hours from Black Hills.

Look at the lodges in Custer State Park. They look awesome. We enjoyed tours of both Wind Cave and Jewel Cave, with Jewel being our favorite.

A visit to the Badlands and maybe Devils Tower would be fun!

Enjoy!
