help with trip planning. pleaseI would do a little rearranging of activities. You may have too much planned. Will you have kids with you?
Day 1 Saturday aug 23- Arrive at Badlands. Stay at Cedar Pass Lodge.
Day 2 Sunday Aug 24 - See Badlands in the morning, drive around Custer State Park and Jeep Tour. See Mt Rushmore. Stay in Hill City. We also liked Custer, seemed closer to many of the attractions.
Day 3 Monday aug 25- Jewel Cave tour, horseback riding, mini golf etc. Maybe see the evening program at Mt Rushmore.
Day 4 Tues aug 26- Maybe a hike in Custer State Park, see a lake, views etc. I would rather be out enjoying nature than doing tourist attractions, but that is just me! Have not done the train or the slide, don%26#39;t know how fun either is. Drive to Deadwood in the afternoon.
Day 5 Wed aug 27- Spearfish canyon, devils tower for the day drive back to rapid city
Day 6 Thurs aug 28- Reptile Gardens/Bear Country may take most of the morning. Not sure if you want to do both. I have not done this so can%26#39;t help. It is a 10-11 hour drive from Rapid City to Wisconsin... seems a bit long after sightseeing in the morning.
help with trip planning. pleaseyes forgot to mention, 2 teens 14 and 15
I would show your teens some of the options... have them pick ones they really want to do. Bear Country and Reptile Gardens may be too kid like for them. Also the train may not be as much fun for them as it would be for adults and little kids. Teens are just creatures, lol! (I%26#39;m a high school teacher and mom of a 13 yo!)
We did gold panning in Hill City at Wade%26#39;s Gold Mill, quite fun.
Thank you very much for the imput and yes teens are actually unpredictable creatures. lol Think I%26#39;ll skip bear country, reptile gardens and the train. I know they want to try the pres. slide. Best place for horsebackriding?
I have a 13 yr old and 9yr old and from our experience I would choose Bear Country and/or Reptile Gardens over the Presidents Slide. Your teens will have fun there but ultimately its a ride down a hill - sort of sledding I guess. It doesn%26#39;t last long and is pretty expensive. I would think that if you did all three and compared them you would find that BC or RG were more worth your time and money. IMO - more educational but both can be fun as you get to experience things outside of the ordinary. Bears and alligators and snakes - oh my! The train would likely be boring for the kids but it is a really nice way to see the scenery. I would skip it and the slide this time around. You could easily hit Bear Country or Reptile Gardens on the day you are heading out of town to go back east. Both are on Hwy 16 not too far from Catron Blvd intersection which you would want to take over to meet I-90. I would change your Pirates Cove plans to do the evening you are staying in RC. Have a dinner then do a round of mini golf then head back to your room to relax - that makes more sense then trying to fit it in then drive out of town to do the other stuff.
