Where to buy groceries near Custer

A family will be renting a cabin near Custer this July. We would like to do our own cooking or at least prepare picnics etc Where is the best grocery in the area? In other words, where do the local people shop?

You%26#39;ll find most of what you need in Custer at Dakotamart. Krull%26#39;s in Hill City is a little smaller. Rapid City has Safeway, Wal-mart and others if you%26#39;re looking for major supermarket--but that%26#39;s 45 minutes away unless it%26#39;s on your way to Custer at the beginning of the trip.

Dakotamart in Custer is fine for basic food. If you%26#39;re used to food for special dietary needs and organic and specialty food, you%26#39;ll probably need to go Rapid City. The westside Safeway on Mountain View Road has more specialty food than the Safeway on Mount Rushmore Road.

I have a follow up question to this. Where can we buy beer and wine? In the grocery store or do we need to go to a liquor store?

Also, are there any farmers markets in Custer during the summer?

It has been my experience that you can purchase alcoholic beverages in most grocery stores in South Dakota. Not sure about fresh produce markets. Try the Chamber of Commerce website at info@custersd.com or www.custersd.com

Beer and wine is available at most grocery stores (and it%26#39;s regular beer, not 3.2 like in some states). Hard liquor is in some grocery stores but not all.

I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s a farmers market in Custer. There%26#39;s one in Rapid City in the summer at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It%26#39;s on Omaha Street west of downtown.

Besides Lynns Dakotamart, there is also Custer Country Market in Custer. Alcohol is available at both stores.

Correction: The Rapid City Farmers Market starts at 9 a.m. this year on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
