We are planning on doing the wildlife loop at Custer Park in August. Any suggestions on how much time to allow for this?

Hello,
We%26#39;ve never been at that time of year, so I don%26#39;t know how the traffic will be. At the times we have been there in the spring, a couple of hours is plenty of time---including about a half-hour stop with the burros. Maximize your wildlife sightings and minimize the traffic by going as early in the morning as you can.
Enjoy the trip,

thank you. Will definitely go early.
We were there on Saturday, 6/7. A couple of hours is more then enough time! That included stopping along side the road to have picnic lunch out of car. The only wildlife we saw was plenty of buffalo and prairie dogs. Did see 2 burrows on the right greeting visitors, to cute! Then we saw more later on. We kept expecting a bear to run out in front of us or see them along side the road as if you were in Yellowstone, but all the locals we talked to said there aren%26#39;t bear in the area anymore. It was a picture perfect day. Enjoy! We sure did!
A heads up...the first full week in August is the Sturgis Rally. That%26#39;s when we%26#39;ll be there. The Custer State Park Loop will only take a couple of hours as stated above even if there is moderate to heavy traffic. In 2006 we left Sturgis, went through Rapid City, did the Iron Mountain Road with pretty heavy traffic), Custer Wildlife Loop (with an ice tea stop), the Needles Hwy (with a brief ice cream stop at Horsethief Campground), through Hill City (gas stop and pretty heavy traffic), and were back in Sturgis 5 1/2 hours later (we were stopped for 1 1/2 hours between Hill City because of a serious rain storm). If you get a chance to do the Iron Mountain Road and Needles Hwy also, you%26#39;ll be treated to some gorgeous scenery.
