Has anyone done the President%26#39;s Alpine slide? We are taking our 9 year old boys to see Mt Rushmore and thought this might be a fun stop for them. Also, does anyone know what their hours are? I didn%26#39;t see them on the website.
Alpine Slide
We stayed in Keystone last year in late August. I%26#39;m not sure when you are going, but we stayed at the Roosevelt Inn which is right next door to the slide. It seemed to run rather sporadically. Some days it did not open at all. We did have some rainy days when we were there, and obviously it couldn%26#39;t open at those times. But even when it was nice weather, it didn%26#39;t seem open every day. Depending on what part of the month you will be there, I would call and verify the hours before making a special trip. We didn%26#39;t ride because we just ran out of time.
Enjoy your trip!
Alpine Slide
Took my son there last summer (he was five years old). He loved it. We took the tram ride up, and the alpine slide down. Your sons may be about the age when they can ride down the slide themselves, but, you will need to judge for yourselves. I thought for a five-year-old it would be an injury waiting to happen. Plan on spending around 20 minutes, if you do the aerial tram ride up. I%26#39;d recommend it, and have fun.
Just got back from my first trip to SD with my 10 year old grandson. We were there from July 24-28. We stayed in Custer and when visiting different attractions in Keystone, stopped and did the Alpine Slide! I loved it at age 60 and so did my grandson. You can get a coupon off in one of the traveler%26#39;s information centers or truck stops. There is a big coupon book called called 2007 Traveler%26#39;s Magazine that has $1 off each ticket 10 am -12 pm. I think it is open till 8:00 pm. Your pic is taken when you reach the top on the tramway and you can buy a 4x6 for $10 I think! I would do it again! Have a good trip!
just a warning my husband was injured on one- no warning, reason, it stopped on him he fell forward, brushburns on elbows and knees broke glasses
My family was just there and all of us did the slide including our 10YO. It is not very scary--take the FAST lane!--and the lift ride up is fun for kids who may not have been on a ski lift much. The views and garden area at the top are nice as well.
Like you, I was hunting for their hours and ended up calling while we were there--they told me the slide is open until 7pm but the restaurant at the top closes 6:30 or so. Keystone is on Mountain time zone.
I went last year %26amp; rode it. It was a log of fun although pricey. I saw many young children riding it. The view of Mt. Rushmore wasn%26#39;t good (much too far away) but the grill up top was good.
We went the end of July with kids age 12,9, and 5. They loved it. We got a package of tickets to save some money and everyone got to go a couple times. This was probably the kids favorite part of our trip.
Is there a weight limit for the alpine slide?
