sturgis bike week 2009
Sturgis is a great experience whether or not you are on a bike (unless you have a thing against bikes, black t shirts and leather). The Black Hills are beautiful and there are many interesting things to do while you are there. There are folks of all ages and walks of life on all kinds of bikes (but mostly Harleys), displays/vendors of all types, concerts, bike demos, races, hill climbs, and tours of the Hills. There is plenty of food and drink. Clothing is sometimes somewhat optional (bikinis and chaps aren%26#39;t unusual as well as topless; (body paint makes that legal). There are some wonderful sights to see all within about 100 miles in any direction.
The Ace Cafe (London) had a large tent set up out there this year. You might get some information from them too, if you haven%26#39;t already. We took our one year-old grandson who loves motorcycles to Sturgis and he loved it as did our son-in-law who was quite awed by the rally and the Black Hills in general. We started going out there in 1975 and have seldom missed a year.
Do you know where you want to stay? You might want to get on that as soon as you can as rooms fill up quite far in advance. We made our reservations at the campground in Rapid City (we bought a bike-hauler trailer) in February. Room rates also go up during the rally so if you see something on the net, they will usually have a disclaimer that normal rates do not apply during the rally. You can have helpful information sent to you by checking out www.blackhillsbadlands.com, guide@campsd.org or www.campsd.org, or by using Trip Advisor further. Please keep in touch if I can be of further assistance.
