Spearfish Canyon Lodge

We have booked two nights at the end of the our Black Hills vacation at Spearfish Canyon Lodge. The setting appears spectular but it is reported at secluded. Since dining options are limited at the lodge, if we eat dinner in a %26#39;nearby%26#39; town we would likely be driving back in the dark. The roads are reported as winding - how safe/easy is it to drive these roads at night? Are we better off eating at the lodge (despite so-so reviews on the food).

The rest of our stay (except for our first night in Rapid City) is in Hill City. Am I better off staying put there for our entire visit? I had thought it would be more convenient and relaxing to visit Devil%26#39;s Tower, Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood, and the Homestake mining company if we changed our base to the lodge but the remoteness of the location has me wondering about the convenience. Other lodging options in the area of Spearfish don%26#39;t sound so great.

I would diffently go into spearfish to eat, the food at the lodge and across the road isn%26#39;t very good. There%26#39;s no reason to be worried about driving at night the lodge is not that remote. It is a very nice place to stay, I%26#39;ve always enjoyed it.

Decided to cancel at the lodge and stay in Deadwood at the Hampton Inn. We%26#39;ll definitely take the hike behind the lodge but we really wouldn%26#39;t be staying long at the lodge so it%26#39;s probably not worth the out of the way location. The Hampton is also $55/night cheaper and the room is likely to be nicer than the standard room at the lodge.
