Just finalizing our trip in July. We are staying 2 nights in Spearfish at the Best Western and then 2 nights at the K Bar S Lodge. The K Bar S is booked for the 3rd night so need suggestions on what to do. We are planning on spending the day in the Badlands so dont really want to stay there. What about the Hot Springs area-is there much to do down there??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
need suggestion for 1 more day/night????
The main things to see in Hot Springs are the Mammoth Site, Wild Horse Sanctuary, %26amp; Evans Plunge. I know I have answered some of your posts before. Do you have children going? If so, they will really enjoy the Mammoth Site. The Wild Horse Sanctuary is pircey but worth it if you enjoy horses. The tours are excellent and very detailed. They last a little over 2 hours and the guides really take the time to tell you about the area and horses habits. For a large family, this probably would be difficult to swing dollars wise. The tours run about $50 per person. Evans Plunge is an indoor/outdoor waterpark fed by the hot springs.
If you are staying in Keystone at K Bar S, there are plenty of things in this area to keep you busy. You could see the Rushmore Lighting Ceremony, the laser show at Crazy Horse, Wind and/or Jewel Caves to name a few. For rainy days, the cave tours are good, along with the Gutzon Borglum Museum in Keystone.

You might like staying in Custer for one night as an alternative to Hot Springs. There are many great things to do around Custer (Custer State Park), Crazy Horse, Iron Mountain Road... There are several clean, reasonable motels around Custer.
Hi SaraJoe,
My kids are 3, 6 and 10 and they%26#39;d vote for Evans Plunge over anything. :-) Wind Cave National Park is also nearby with cave tours, hiking and wildlife watching.
Not sure I%26#39;d agree that Evans Plunge would be a highlight. I thought it resembled just your average swimming pool/water slide. It%26#39;s a long drive to do swim in a warm swimming pool.
Cosmos was our favorite. We had to force the kids to go - they thought the concept was corny. Once we got them there, they didn%26#39;t want to leave.
Just my opinion.
