Your trip is similar to ours. We are flying into Minneapolis, then heading out to Walnut Grove, DeSmet and the Corn Palace in Mitchell..then going on to Badlands Natl Park, spending 2 nights in Black Hills to see Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, and Crazy Horse. hen moving on to Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon, and driving to Theodore Roosevelt Natl Park..staying there overnight and driving back to Minneapolis. What things did you like best? Did you see DeSmet? I heard that the Corn Palace was a waste, but how did you like it? My ancestors are from Britain.

Also I went to England about 20 years ago. Had a great time..people were very friendly and nice to us.

Hi your trip sounds just like mine,l enjoyed the corn palace for the experience of seeing it but all it is really is a building with picture%26#39;s made of sweetcorn which are changed each year and inside it is a big shoping area with somewhere to eat%26#39;but l am glad l went there. l wanted to go to Demet but we did not have enough time l wanted to get some photo of where the ingalls are buried.

l would go to plum creek near Walnut Grove and to the Sod Houses you can even spend the night in one they are furnised and have clothes to try on for good photo%26#39;s if you need any more help l will get back to you. Have a Good trip Elaine Glad you like England l am from Northampton (60 Miles from London )

Hi, I am from Minnesota and have stayed in DeSmet a couple of times. It was nice but I was not impressed with the Laura Ingalls site personally. If you%26#39;re coming through Mitchell the Corn Palace is one of the places everyone stops in at to say they saw it. It%26#39;s pretty cool when you think of the work that goes into it. You will love the Black Hills. Have an excellent trip.

In regards to the Corn Palace, I agree that one must appreciate all the work that goes into building a palace of corn yet if it takes so long to construct, how come we never ever see any workers, any artists, corn sorters as it were. It is similar in that respect to the pyramids near Giza. I do appreciate all the work the Egyptians have gone through building such beautiful rock structures, but where are the workers. Shouldn%26#39;t there be at least some lingering souls tidying up the last chore. One gets the impression both jobs were dropped from the sky and have always been.

You will see the workers tearing down the murals and putting up new ones in July and August leading up to the Corn Palace Festival. This year it will be held August 20-24. It is great to watch them as they first put up a background to show where each 1/2 of an ear of corn and other grains and grass go, much like a paint by number background.
