help-leaving in 2 days-will this work

On our last day (staying in Keystone) see Mt. Rushmore and Presidential trail in the morning. Then I would like to do a Jewel cave tour and call now and see if they still have openings for the jr dig at the Mammoth site. We would have to be there about 1 for the 2 pm dig. How long of a drive from Mt Rushmore to the Mammoth site and then from there how long to Jewel cave? I need to figure out what time to make a reservation for Jewel Cave. Thank you!

We stayed in Keystone, and I would say allow an hour to get the Mammoth site. From there, I%26#39;d allot around 45 minutes to get to Jewel Cave.

If you get a pretty early start, it%26#39;s probably do-able, but I%26#39;d check on the times for cave tours at Jewel, and maybe book the last one of the day. It may actually even be less crowded. We booked the last one of the day when we visited Mammoth Cave, and it was definetely lighter with the crowd. When we visited Jewel, we were there around 10 and waited well over an hour for a tour. You are wise to make advance reservations.

I don%26#39;t know what your last day is, but right now traffic can be slow on hwy 385, and I would imagine the Mt Rushmore area as well, with the Sturgis Rally. Traffic should be better by the 10th.
