Final Itinerary with a couple of questions

I think I%26#39;ve got our trip about nailed down. Here it is I%26#39;d appreciate your comments and answers to my questions.

8/21 Leave League City, overnight Salina, KS

8/22 Drive to Custer SP, check in at Center Lake CG

8/23 Drive to Mt. Rushmore via Iron Mt. Rd., tour Mt. Rushmore, Drive to Sylvan lake via 244 and 87, walk around the lake (perhaps hike a bit of Sunday Gulch, though I%26#39;m confused about the length, TI map has both 3.5 strenous and 2.8 moderate), Continue down the Needles Highway, Hike to Cathedral spires, return to camp

8/24 Tour Crazy Horse Memorial, Drive to Sylvan lake TH, Hike to Harney Peak (including Little Devil%26#39;s Tower) using trails 4 an 9.

Is it better to go up on one or the other of these trails?

Dinner at the Game Lodge. Are jeans and sneakers ok for the dining room at night?

Lighting ceremony at Mt. Rushmore

8/25 Drive wildlife loop, lunch back at camp, Go into to Custer for groceries, do laundry and stop by Forest Service office for trail maps

8/26 Break camp, drive to Silver City, Hike Rapid Creek, Lunch at the Sugar Shack, Drive to Spearfish Canyon set up camp at either Timon or Rod %26amp; Gun CG

8/27 Hike Little Spearfish loop, lunch back at camp, Tour Deadwood, return to camp via Spearfish Canyon

8/28 Hike Rimrock Trail, lunch back at camp, take showers in either Deadwood or Lead

8/29 Break camp, Drive to Narrows CG in Roosevlet NF, CO

How%26#39;s this look? It will just be me and my husband but, we will have our dog with us. Any activity that he has to be left in the car for has to be done first thing in the morning or in the evening.

Final Itinerary with a couple of questions

Looks like a fun plan. Ate at the Sugar Shack once but had to eat indoors because of the flies. It%26#39;s a cute place. Have fun and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Final Itinerary with a couple of questions

The Sylvan Lake loop is easy and can be done quickly. The Sunday Gulch Trail is considered strenuous in the area below the Sylvan Lake dam--which is the best part of the hike. You%26#39;ve got a good idea--hike the Sylvan Lake loop and hike down the Sunday Gulch trail until you%26#39;ve seen what you want to see and then hike back uphill to complete the Sylvan loop.

You%26#39;re also on the right track to get the best bang for your buck to get to the top of Harney. Start at Sylvan, hike to the Little Devils Tower trailhead, hike up the Little Devils Tower trail to Harney Peak (Little Devils Tower will be a short spur from this route). Then hike back down directly to Sylvan. If you%26#39;re in good shape, you%26#39;re looking at about three hours to make this loop. This loop is A LOT better than going to the top of Harney directly from Sylvan.

Jeans are fine the Game Lodge.

Don%26#39;t miss Spearfish Falls in Spearfish Canyon. It%26#39;s a short hike from the highway behind the Latchstring Inn (adjacent to Spearfish Canyon Lodge).
