Hi all,
My husband is headed to work in Wheatland soon. I%26#39;ve checked Google maps for the route and it suggest that Spearfish Canyon would be part of the fastest route?!?! I can%26#39;t imagine that%26#39;s right, so could someone tell me what way is fastest?
Thanks
Fastest Route: Spearfish to Wheatland WY
Yes, Spearfish Canyon is usually the fastest route from Spearfish to Wheatland or destinations in that direction (like Denver). The people I know who live in Spearfish usually go that way.
The other option is to drive west to Sundance and then go south. Generally the Canyon is faster but if your husband is coming from North Dakota on 85, going west to Sundance might not be a bad idea because of the time saved by not going through Spearfish.
Have him go both ways and time it for us!
You can also take 85 through Deadwood and Lead...but that%26#39;s the problem: Deadwood and Lead take quite a bit of time.
If there%26#39;s any chance of snow, skip the Spearfish Canyon route because that will be the first road to be bad.
Some misc. info about Wheatland: the Super 8 is nice. There is a Pamida and Safeway for basic shopping.

Thanks Accommodator,
That%26#39;s just the kind of stuff we needed to know, so I%26#39;ll print it out and pass it on to him. Hard to believe its faster that way, but what a bonus! It%26#39;s likely that I%26#39;ll be the one doing the comparison when we go to visit him. :o)
By the way...you%26#39;re probably aware of this website since you%26#39;re from ND, but here is a one stop shop for figuring out road conditions and closures for your route.

Thanks,
While I%26#39;ve seen many of the pages it links to, I hadn%26#39;t seen this particular one. Nice to have it all in one place.
Here%26#39;s another distance saving route. Turn south of Manville, WY, on WY 270 which goes to Guernsey. It%26#39;s kind of a pretty route, too, especially around Hartville.
This route probably takes the same amount of time as connecting with I-25 at Orin Junction, but you%26#39;ll save about 15 miles and it%26#39;s more scenic.
