We%26#39;re planning a trip to Custer State Park, and some of the family wants to stay at Center Lake Campground. Can anyone provide me with any reason it would be worth staying at this campground (with pit toilets and no showers), when all the other campgrounds in the park apparently have flush toilets and showers?
Thanks!
Center Lake Campground, Custer State Park
Maybe it is a quieter campground??? Maybe better fishing?
I too would rather have flush toilets and showers. Many of the other campgrounds look just as nice.

Center Lake Campground, Custer State Park
The Center Lake Campground does have showers. But I do believe it only has pit toilets.
It%26#39;s a popular campground with the locals because there is good fishing.
It%26#39;s a little bit off of the beaten path since there%26#39;s no store or lodge adjacent to the campground (like Sylvan or the Game Lodge). The location isn%26#39;t too bad, though, because you have easy access to the Needles, Iron Mountain Road (which takes you to Mt. Rushmore) and it%26#39;s not far from the rest of Custer State Park.
We%26#39;re staying there in August because, I like the location and thought it might be quieter. I don%26#39;t really mind vault toliets and it does have showers down by the lake.
Is it necessary to get a reservation for camping? We are still debating about tent camping and hotels.
Thanks
It probably depends on when you are going. We%26#39;re going in late August and I made reservations in January. I wanted to made sure we got the campground and spot we wanted. They do have first come first serve sites at Center Lake.
