I was considering taking a roadtrip and visiting Mount Rushmore. If I do it, I%26#39;ll be doing it in mid-November with a 4 month old baby. What kind of diving conditions can I expect from Rapid City to Mount Rushmore? Will it be snowy/icy in mid-November? Is the drive very steep? Also, what%26#39;s the altitude of the visitors centre at mount Rushmore? Several sites quote the altitude of Mount Rushmore to being around 5700ft. But I want toknow what the base or viewing area%26#39;s altitude is. I just want to make sure that I am not putting my baby at risk for altitude sickness.
Thanks.
Mount Rushmore and altitudeIt%26#39;s a big four lane highway from Rapid City to Mount Rushmore. You go up hill but I wouldn%26#39;t consider it steep. There%26#39;s always a chance of ice anytime from about September to May. But it%26#39;s a well maintained highway so ice doesn%26#39;t stay long.
You%26#39;ll be at about 5200 feet at the base of Mount Rushmore. Rapid City is at about 3200 feet.
